I saw Deception just the other day. Talk about full on full blown Hollywood and Bette Davis at their most dramatic best, what a great movie. And, I also saw A Late Quartet, it was as bad as it gets.

You are right about music being hard to write about. Describing sound is like describing color. As a composer, music is an ordinary experience. I do not get that hair raising effect that you see in movies when composers create. For me it's all nuts and bolts of figuring out what to put where, like a jigsaw puzzle. I place all the pieces into their well allotted spaces. It is quite mechanical most of the time.

Poetry has always been the best medium to describe things, especially forms of art. After all, poetry says what it feels like to be alive. Music is too abstract to offer universal feelings.
